Trans Am Series driver Simon Gregg, son of the late racing champion Peter Gregg, bought a new waterfront mansion in Palm Beach Gardens.

Gregg paid nearly $9 million for the five-bedroom home at 14844 Palmwood Road, according to a press release. Property records show Mads Thomsen, a luxury homebuilder in Palm Beach, sold the 11,372-square-foot house.

The home sold for nearly $1,500 a per square foot, a record in Palm Beach Gardens, according to the release. Jennifer Hyland of Illustrated Properties’ Peters & Hyland group represented the seller, while Compass agent Holly Meyer Lucas brought the buyer.

It was listed for $9.4 million.

Simon Gregg is a three-time Trans Am champion who recently announced plans to launch the Peter Gregg Foundation and the Peter Gregg Gallery in Jacksonville. His father, a 22-race winner, was married to Jennifer Johnson of the Johnson & Johnson family.

Records show Thomsen paid $1.4 million for the property in 2014 and completed the house in 2018. The half-acre property features a gated driveway leading to a motor court, a three-car garage, a pool, boat dock and new seawall, and 100 feet of frontage on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Golf great Greg Norman and his wife, Kiki, recently paid $12.2 million for a home in Palm Beach Gardens.

A number of race car drivers have long called South Florida home. Former Formula 1 driver and spec home developer Eddie Irvine recently sold a waterfront home on the Venetian Islands in Miami Beach for $17.1 million.

In October, Extreme Speed Motorsports owner and driver Scott Sharp sold his waterfront home in North Palm Beach for $5.3 million.
